This new hydropower project is situated in the Peruvian Andes some 300 km away from the capital Lima in the Amazonian watershed. Located on the Mantaro River, it includes an 80 m high gravity dam, a 5.7 km long headrace tunnel of around 90 m2 section, a partially lined vertical shaft D=8 m - H=240 m, an underground powerhouse with a total capacity of 510 MW equipped with 3 Francis Turbines, and finally a 1.9 km long tailrace tunnel. The joint venture made of the Italian contactor Astaldi S.p.A and the Peruvian contractor Grana y Montero SAA selected Lombardi Eng. Ltd to become the main designer of the EPC contract of all the civil engineering schemes and the major hydromechanical and electrical equipment. The construction works are on-going and the commissioning is programmed for the second half of 2015.

Lombardi Engineering Ltd. has been contracted with the design and site supervision of the rehabilitation works of the Pisayambo head race tunnel, close to the Pucará Powerhouse in Ecuador, 160 km SW of Quito.
The rehabilitation works, that will likely last 1 year, include a 600 m long by-pass to the existing headrace tunnel that has been severely damaged in September 2011 by a landslide that has involved part of the waterway.
